10 days into our wonderful work experience at Hema have been truely a life changing experience. Our first week of work was very informative and interesting. We worked in many different areas throughout the week. Mainly using the PDA Maschine to help us stock items. Helping customers find items in the store became a daily normality. Usually around 2pm or 3pm mainly young people come in the store after school and it particularly nice to help them. We learned in the 10 days many basic Dutch words.
In our time we befriended a neighboring kebab store owner. He can speak perfect German, English, Dutch, and Turkish. We usually eat there in our lunch break. In my free time a did a lot of biking in the many nice forests in the area. I found one special spot in our village with a nice bench to relax and enjoy the high view, which is unusual in the Netherlands, since it is such a flat country.
On the weekend we went to the national park. A huge park filled with sand dunes, forests, castles and seas. We went with our teacher and a Dutch teacher and our B&B owner. We had a very nice day and amazing weather. We had a nice picnic in the park together. We then ate dinner at one of the famous pancake houses in the Netherlands. It was really fun day.
I am sad that the work experience ends on Friday. But I am also very excited for this week because I will turning 18 on Thursday. I will keep you updated for our last week.
