First days in the Netherlands

Projekt:

Good evening,

Our first days here in Arnhem have been really fun and interesting. We came on Friday by train and in just 1 hour and 45 minutes we arrived in Arnhem Centraal. We then went to the lovely bed and breakfast in a little lovely village of Heavadorp. We were both very welcomed by the friendly dutch people. We decided to ride the 6km to Arnhem by bike to see it in the evening. We had a nice night and ate some Dutch Krokettes.

On Saturday the weather was spectacular and we decided to use our free day to ride the train one hour to Amsterdam. We discovered the wonderful canals of the city and the nice Vondelpark. Also seeing the Dutch architecture was interesting in comparison to German cities.

On Sunday we decided to rest from the Amsterdam trip from saturday. We even went to LIDL which is open on Sundays to stock up on some groceries.

On Monday morning me and Kassim went to HEMA for our first day of work. We were greeted by the nice employees. They helped us by speaking English or German or a mixture of both. We learned to greet customers in Dutch by saying „Goedemorgen“ (Guten Morgen) or „Goedemiddag“ (Guten Mittag). I worked mainly in the Inventory and learned to scan items with the PDA Maschine. We filled a shelve with party items for the upcoming holiday „Koningsdag“ where the king is honored on his birthday.

I am looking forward to the next few days and I am excited to go to work again.

, Nelson

    Dear Nelson,

It is good to hear (or read) that you had a great start into your stay in the Netherlands.
Have you been to Amsterdam before? Taking the train for an hour and being in Amsterdam must be amazing. What does it feel like being in Europe and travel from one country/place to another so easily?
Do you plan to see more cities in the Netherlands?
Do the customers realize that you are not Dutch when you greet them in Dutch? The „Koeningsdag“, obviously, must be a great holiday in the Netherlands which we do mit celebrate in Germany. What have you heard or learned about how the Dutch celebrate this day in honour of their King Willem-Alexander?
I love to hear from you.

    All the best,
    RG

      Hello Mr. Galletto
It is not my first time in Amsterdam. I have been there a couple times but to experience it with Kassim was a great experience. It is amazing how easy it was to go to Amsterdam from Arnhem. I enjoy the freedom of travel from Europe in it’s finest form. We might in the next few days visit another city. It’s pretty spontaneous here. The customers are very friendly and react in English and in German to help us. The Koeningsdag is a big celebration in the whole Country celebrating King Willem-Alexander. People celebrate his Birthday on that day.

      Have a good evening.
